Sexism / Double standards

Warning: This video contains some bad language!

This parody of "Blurred Lines" was created by 3 New Zealand law students from Auckland University. It was created to show-case the sexism women face on a daily basis. In this video, they dress the men down in little to nothing, much like the women in the "Blurred Lines" videos, and dance and grab all over them, thus objectifying men. It is said to be one of the best parodies of its time. They re-named their video "Defined Lines" insisting that consent has no blurred lines.

It was posted on youtube last Wednesday and hit 300,000 views almost immediately. The next day, of course, it was taken down due to "sexual content." Now yes, the vibrator is seen as sexual content, but it is not being used is anyway. Also the males are in tight underwear. In the "Blurred Lines" video of course, we have women running around in tight underwear and outfits. Indicating that we are animals, and that it is in our nature to have sex and that Robin Thicke needs to "liberate" us. Also, in the video when Robin Thicke is laying in bed with a girl, she is naked.

This "male dominated world" has a double standard put on women. This sexism video was made to shine light on what women face on a day to day basis, and it also switches the gender roles to have men objectified as sex objects. Of course though, youtube had to flag it and delete it due to "sexual content,"  but the Robin Thicke video is forever streaming. Now if that is not a double standard than I don't know what is.  The Auckland law students are not going down without a fight, they have re-uploaded the video back onto youtube at least 3 times already & will continue to do so.

Anybody else what to share their opinion on this? :)

  1. I loved the video! That is exactly how they do us women everyday, so why was it such a bad thing that we put in men in that position, why was this video token down and flag! Like you said Blurred Lines wasn't as pleasant either. It is a shame that women have to get stereotyped and have gotten the perception of a women that is a animal or around just to cook and clean, or all the other things that they associate women with. It just doesn't make any sense! I think just like racism, feminism will also be around for quite a while and may not be going anywhere anytime soon.
