Word Confusion.
Loose: Not firmly or tightly fixed in place.
Example;
“Sarah has a loose tooth!” Righty tighty, lefty loosy!
Lose: To be deprived of or cease to have or retain.
Example;
“Don’t lose the money I have you for lunch.”
There: In, at, or to the place or position. Indicates a
place/position.
Example; “I
went to Paris last summer and stayed there for 2 days.”
Their: Belonging to or associated with the people or things
mentioned or IDed. Shows possession.
Example;
“We just went to visit Grace & john, their home is very decorated.”
They’re: Combination of the words THEY ARE with an
aposterphy. It indicates 2 or more people.
Example;
Instead of saying “They are all outside near the pool” you can say
“They’re outside
near the pool.”
Choose: To pick out or select. Indicates either a present or
future action.
Example of
present; “Go ahead and choose any food in-front of you.”
Future;
“Tomorrow you will choose only 1 color of cloth.”
Chose: Past forms of choose.
Example; “He chose to eat an apple
this morning rather than a bowl of
cereal.”
Then: Indicates what is after or next.
Example; “I
want to go to dinner then see a movie.”
Than: Used in 2 ways. It can introduce the second element in
a comparison or Indicating that one favors the first action over the second.
Example of
comparison; “Kevin is much taller than his brother Steven.”
Favor; “I’d
rather surf than snowboard.”
Your: Belonging to or associated with the person. Shows
possession.
Example;
“Don’t forget your jacket, it’s cold outside.”
The
possession your=jacket. It belongs to you.
You’re: A combination of the two words You and Are. Used in
many descriptive sentences about a person.
Example;
“You’re very smart in Chemistry!”
Example;
“You’re an amazing person for collecting my homework while I was sick today.
Where: In or to what place/position.
Example;
“Where does Rachel live?” Or “Where are you going tomorrow?”
Were: 2nd person, singular past, plural past. It
is the past form of Be.
Example;
“We were all tired last night” or “I wish I were young again.”
Wear: To have on ones body.
Example;
“I’m going to wear my red Toms tomorrow.”
Waist: The human body part!
Example;
“Her waist is very small.”
Waste: What you throw away, what is no longer used.
Example;
“This trip is a waste of time.” Or “Be careful throwing away the waste
products.”
